Disney Infinity is one of the most popular video game franchises in recent history, and Disney Infinity 3.0 increases the action and brings in some of the most beloved characters from Disney films.

You might know the Disney Infinity series from the previous editions that were available for the Nintendo Wii U, XBOX One, PlayStation 4 and similar video game consoles. The company announced plans to release a PC version, which became available in 2013. Like the previous editions, it lets you play games based on the characters you invest in and the toys that you purchase separately.

The way it works is pretty easy. Once you download a copy of the game to your computer, you can take advantage of all the free characters. Those characters come with games that you can play on your computer without any additional software. If you want to explore more of the Disney world though, you'll need to invest in separate characters. Disney requires that you use an Infinity Base that has room for several of the plastic characters that you can purchase. Though it can be expensive, having more characters will let you play with characters from different series in the same games.

There are two different ways in which you can play. The first is something called Play Set Mode, which uses the Infinity Base and the plastic toy characters. Each set that you buy comes with exclusive content that you cannot get anywhere else. When you purchase all the characters in one film or set like Pirates of the Caribbean or Frozen, you'll unlock even more games. The downside is that you can only use characters from the same set in those games.

With Toy Box Mode, you can mix and match all those characters together in different ways. Disney lets you build your own virtual worlds and bring together characters from all your favorite films and cartoons. As you mix together characters, you may even unlock special upgrades and other exclusive content.

Though you can now get all the same play sets and toy figures for your PC that console users had access too, Disney announced that it would discontinue the line in 2016 and no longer release any new figures. Disney Infinity 3.0 comes with new characters and adventures from the Star Wars franchise. While you won't find as many people playing today, it's still a pretty fun adventure for kids and adults.
